Characters do battle with, and hopefully kill, a wide variety of NPCs for experience, gold, and equipment. With experience comes Character Points (CPs), which characters use to train skills, spell, and attributes. A player gains CPs at a constant rate per experience point, and that rate is based on the player's current level.

There is a limit of 100,000 CPs for any one character, which allows a player to continue gaining CPs well past reaching the maximum character level of 165. The character point limit allows players to customize their characters without completely avoiding normal class limitations (or otherwise unbalancing the game). Basically, gaining more CPs will give you a definite advantage over those will with less CPs, but will not make you invincible.

Characters may also engage each other in three different types of Player Killing (PK or PvP). Player killing is done for many reasons, including fun, spite, or personal gain. Whatever the reason, PK is restricted to specific zones that alert a player to the presence of PK before entering. The only exception to this is House Diplomacy, which allows to Noble Houses to PK each other in otherwise non-PK areas.
