Mage Paths

Mage/Druid/Rogue/Mercenary/Mage Avatar

Pros

This path is a good balance for NPK and EQ running.

The Druid subclass contains several useful spells including Cleansing, Gaseous Cloud, Living Armor, and Winds of Abandonment. The Rogue subclass contains some very useful skills such as Pinpoint and Poison Weapon. The Mercenary subclass contains counterattack, which helps in pk by aiding the MAV in avoiding attacks.

Cons

This path does not provide death magic, which may make some players feel less save in PK due to being more vulnerably to Death Touch. Some players may see counterattack as a mediocre skill in comparison to the skills that other warrior subclasses provide, such as Layhands from Paladin, or Survey and Cover Tracks from Ranger.

Mage/Druid/Paladin/Assassin/Mage Avatar

Pros

The Druid subclass contains several useful spells including Cleansing, Gaseous Cloud and Living Armor.

The Paladin subclass contains the coveted Layhands abilities (Layhands Purify, Layhands Heal and Layhands Life).

In general this path is most suited for EQ running due to the ability to use Cleansing on groupies.

Cons

The Assassin subclass provides little benefit to a Mage Avatar.

Thief Paths

Pros

Cons

Thief/Shaman/Illusionist/Ranger/Thief Avatar

Pros

Cover Tracks makes an already stealthy thief avatar even more difficult to find, and Mirror Image is a great plus to any path. The use of death magic can also come in handle for defending against or dishing out a Death Touch.

Cons

The lack of any rebound besides Deathsphere can be a real pain, especially if you log on to kill someone and have to gather souls first just so you can use a rebound.

Cons

Thief/Mercenary/Monk/Illusionist/Thief Avatar

Pros

This path is loaded with very useful spells/skills, such as: Mirror Image, Critical Hit, Counter Attack, Wizards Eye, and Glyph of Warning. This is a very good path for anyone looking for some NPK action as a thief.

Cons

The lack of Cover Tracks and death magic make this path very undesirable for anyone looking to CPK with that character. Wall of Ice is the only rebound available, which can turn off someone from this path.

Warrior/Assassin/Shaman/Illusionist/Warrior Avatar

Pros

A useful path for a couple reasons. First, having Illusionist in the path means Mirror Images and the ability to Glyph of Warning and use Wizards Eye. Secondly, having the ability to Assassinate is the great equalizer in pk battles, no matter how badly you might be losing.

Cons

The only rebound available is Deathsphere, which takes time and effort to gather souls, especially on EQ runs and when you first log on.
