| The Mage Academy has stood for thousands of years as the centre of learning for all those who lean towards spellcasting. There are no records to show quite when the Academy was built, but the earliest records of Haedoken mention the Academy in one form or another. The academy has been run by a mutually selected group of professors, called the 'coterie'. Together, these professors shield the Academy from the influences of the outside world. This allows them to continue their study and teachings regardless of the situation of the world without. Some time ago, the Academy was beset by a horde of goblins that sprang from the bowels of the earth. The Academy professors initially countered the attack, but were held under siege. In an emergency meeting of the council, the professors decided that to unleash their combined magics upon this horde would be dangerous for the inhabitants of the surrounding area, so they devised an alternative way to deal with the threat. The preparations for this spell were extremely complicated, and required all the professors to incant their parts in precise alignment. The spell was completed at the strike of midnight, and in an enormous flash of light which was seen for hundreds of miles around, the Academy and all the attacking goblins simply disappeared. All that remained of the Academy was a large scar in the earth, where nothing would grow. Many people tried to find out where the Academy has disappeared to, but to no avail. Recently, the grounds that the Academy stood on have been rumored to be haunted, and nobody has visited. It was therefore with great surprise that a messenger was received in the city of Haedoken, heralding the return of the Academy.
